From 10 points down to 7.7 points up.
Industry: A mayor's re-election campaign · Provincial capital, Argentina · 2019
−10 to +7.7
Point margin: primaries and general election, 77 days apart.
- Challenge
- In the primaries the opposition front led the mayor by 10 points, and his party was losing nationally and in the province. Voters had to choose him even if they didn't choose his party.
- My role
- Creative copywriter and transmedia strategy.
- Strategic decision
- Turn an election about the party into an election about the city.
- The three moves
- Pick one opponent. There were several possible ones; we chose a single, concrete one to polarize against. The election stopped being against a whole front and became a choice between two ideas of the city.
- Put the person ahead of the party: people had to vote for him, even if they didn't vote for his party.
- One story, told across every medium and format, that any volunteer could repeat at a doorstep without the candidate there.
- Deliverables
- Transmedia campaign strategy
- Creative copywriting: concepts, scripts and pieces
- Outcome
- He won the general election by 7.7 points (48.6% to 40.9%): 61,000 more votes than in the primaries, in 77 days and with heavy ticket-splitting, on the same day his party lost nationally and in the province. Final official counts.
If a well-chosen story moved the votes of thousands of people in 77 days, imagine what it can do for your brand and your company.
